Establishment of District 68 1877-1956
A meeting of school district No 68 county of Sumner State of Kansas was held ? To call at the
House of Mr Kcaliock in said district on the 2nd Tuesday of August 1877. The Treasurers
report was read. The following persons dully elected officers of the district for the resume
term, Jacob Laylor Director. J. L. Hutchinson Clerk. On motion it was voted to built a school
house on the S E quarter of Section no 29 S of R3WTW34.The officers was Sworn in.

Next come a petition signed by the legal voters of the District (beginning date the 4th of
December 1877) asking that a election of said district be called for the purpose of voting bond
on said district to the amount of $200. For the purpose of building a school house. The
election was called by the board on the 17th day of December 1877 between the hours of 8
O'clock AM and 6 O'clock PM at the Residence of A Czaplinski the Bonds was carried by a
unanimous vote. Discussed and sold at pm by the Board on the 19th day of December 1877
On the 17th day of December 1877 during the time of holding election for bonds it was agreed
between a majority of the voters of the district to change the location of the school house to the
North West corner of the S W ¼ of section 28 Township 34 S R3W the said described real
estate being the claim of Joseph Smith he agreeing to give a bond for a deed to the amount of
one acre at said location it was agreed that J M Smith T A Mills and J L Hutchinson act as a
building comity.
A Special meeting of school district No 68 was held at the school house on the 16th day of
February 1878 at 2 O'clock PM. On notion it was voted to empower the Board to seat the
school house with patent seats providing they can be bought from not more than one hundred
dollars
On notion it was voted to build two Privies out the lumber left of the house size 3x5.
The building comity's report was read approved and the comity discharged. Adjourned.

Annual School meeting of school district No 68 Sumner County State of Kansas was held
present to all at the school house on the 8th day of August 1878 at 2 O'clock PM Mr Jacob
Laylor in the chair. The treasurer read his annual report which on notion was adopted. The

elected officers for the unassuming term. T A Mills director LR Dixion Treasurer. On notion it
was voted to have a four month term of school taught announcing November 1st 1878. On
notion it was voted to levy a 5 Mill tax for incidental funds. On notion it voted to levy a 5 mill tax

June 1879 that we adopt the independent senses of text books for uniform use in the school
of this district for 5 years in compliance with section 1 of the school law approved March 12th

Annual school meeting of school district No 68 Sumner county State of Kansas was held
present to call at the school house on the 14th day of August AD 1879 at 2 O'clock PM Mr.
Jacob Laylor in the chair the treasure read his annual report which on notion was adopted.
The clerk read his annual report which on notion was adopted. The following persons was
daily elected officers for the unassuming term. J. M. Smith Director the same Treasurer On
notion it was carried to have a six month of school commenced 1st day of October 1878 and
ending the first of April 1880. On notion it was voted one percent teachers funds. On notion it
was voted to levy ten mills for inclination. On notion it was voted to turn over the library to the
next teacher and he to the pupils and never take them up again and never vote any more
library funds and all books discharged to pupils be replaced by the parents of the pupil
detaining the same. On notion it was voted to employ a male teacher. On notion it was voted
to pay Miss tame Harington the sum of $12.50 cents.
Meeting of the Board at school house district 68 1878 For the pupils of haying the house
painted at the lowest sides the house shall be painted with white lead and oil J Smith 25.00
dollars. And have wood furnished at the lowest bidder the wood shall be small enough for the
stove by J Hudson the sum of wood 6 ricks at $4.00 and have low privies built at the lower
bides and of one inch length 4 feet square six feet high and have the prive 3 ½ feet long and 2
feet wide and 2 ½ deep J Smith Building of the Prives $11.00 dollars.
Annual school meeting of school district No 68 Sumner County state of Kansas was held
present to call at the school house on the 12th day of August A.D. 1880 at 2 O'clock PM Jacob
Elswick in the chair. The treasurer read his report and adopted The clerk read his report and
was adopted the following persons was dully elected as officers Jacob Elswick as Director I.
E. Sharp as treasurer on motion it was voted to have a 3 month school commencing the first
Monday in November and ending the last of January on notion it was voted to buy 5 mills for
incidental purpose and was voted to lay 2 mills for library
School District No 68 Employed Miss Wiriarn A marm to teach a term of 4 months coming on
the 17th of October 1881 at a salary of 35.00 a month November 25th 1881 And the board
bought 1 acre of ground from Mr William Dimke for $10.00 dollars and the papers and all cost
$10.75 cents for the school district 68.

The annual school meeting of school district No 68 Sumner County State of Kansas was held
present to call at the school house in said district on the 18th day of August A.D. 1882 at 2
O'clock PM. Meeting called to order by the director. Minutes of last meeting read and
approved. The treasurer read his annual report which on notion was adopted. J Taylor
Director presented his resignation which on notion was accepted. L. U. Johelori was elected
director for one year to fill the vacancy caused by Mr Laylors resignation. S. H. Vans Kite was
elected clerk for a term of three years. On notion it was voted to leave 6 months school during
this year. To commence on the 2nd day of October 1882 and close on Friday the 30th day of
March 1883? On notion it was voted to levy a tax of ¾ of one per cent for the teachers fund and
also ¾ of one per cent for the building fund. The boards were re-elected to purchase desks
for the scholars and chair and table for teacher. Adjournment

Kansas was held present to call to the school house in the said district on the 9th day of
August A.D. 1883 at 2 O'clock PM. Called to order by L M Johnston reading of minutes and

was re-elected director for three years moved to levy a tax of one cent for the teachers funds

Moved the board sell the old stove and buy a coal stove and build a coal House. The board
hired Nathaniel D Stephenson to teach a term of 5 months at 40 dollars a month. The board
got the schoolhouse insurance for 400.00 dollars for 5 years.
August 14th 1884 the annual school meetings of school district No 68 Sumner county state of
Kansas was held present to call house in the said district on the 14th day August A. D. 1884
at 2 PM Coal to order by J.W. Johnston reading of minutes and approved Treasurer report
read and adopted. Clerk report read and adopted Jacob Elswick was re-elected treasurer for
three years move to levy a tax of 5 mills for Teachers funds and 2 mills for building funds
move to fill up around school house with district and to pay someone to do it and move to
have 8 or 6 month schooling this year if we can get a teacher. Move to commence school the
first of October 1884 move to adjourn

employed miss Callie Carson to teach 3 months at 30.00 dollars.
August 13th 1885 The annual school meeting of school district No 68 Sumner county State of
Kansas was held present to all of the district trial? was called to order by Mr Jacob Elswick in
the chair reading of the minutes was read of the last meeting and adopted the treasurer report
read and excepted and it was motioned to levy 5 mills for teachers and 2 mills for building and
was voted to fix the school house up by binding it with stone and mortar and to fix up the
school house and out house it was give to Jacob Elswick for the sum of Twenty Dollars. It
was voted to have the starting text book the next 5 years and to have six month school 3 winter
and 3 spring and the board hired Miss L Vacy to teach at 35 dollars a month for the six month
and the board hired Miss Marry Vacy to teach 2 month at 30.00 thirty dollars.

August 12th 1886 The annual school meeting of school district No 68 County of Sumner State
of Kansas was held present to call of Mr Jacob Elswick in the chair minutes of Last meeting
read excepted Treasurer report read and excepted clerk report read and excepted. It was voted
to Levy 1 cent tax for the school for the year. It was voted to have a 8 month school to
commence 20 day of September 1886. IT was voted to Hire Mr Gibson fiz school for 7 dollars
Bank and fix the flew? and the come? of school house. It was voted that Mr Jacob Laylor be
elected director for 3 years from date. It was voted to hire Mrs Elene Rice to teach the school 8
months at 35 dollars a month and was voted to give Mr Elswick 10.00 dollars for his trouble
treasurer of School District 68. It was voted to have the standard text book for the next 5 years
Miss Elen Rice teach 5 months and quit and Miss Sarah Carson 3 months

1887 June 30th The annual school of 68 meeting was call to order by Mr Jacob Laylor in the
chair reading of last meeting read and adopted Treasurer report read and received the clerk
read and received. It was voted to levy a tax of one cent for school It was voted for community
uniformity text books. It was voted to have 8 months school to commence on the first Monday
in September. It was voted to have a man teacher It was voted to give the treasurer Ten dollars
for his trouble and the clerk the same. It was voted to re-elect Jacob Elswick as treasurer for 3
years from date It was voted to call election to vote bonds to build a new school house 24 x 36
on Monday. It was voted to adjourn no other business The board hired Charles Stephens to
teach the school for eight months at Thirty five dollars a month.
1888 June 28th the annual school meeting of school district 68 was called to order by L. H.
Vans Kite In the chair reading of last meeting read and adopted treasurer report read and
received the clerk report read and received. It was voted not to vote on the new uniform text
book but keep the one we have in the district It was voted to elect Mr R M Johnson for director
for one year in Jacob Laylor reclining It was voted not to levy any tax for 1888 for school. It was
voted for the board to have a teacher for the school the board hire a teacher for the school the
board hires Miss Of? Breese? to teach the school for 8 months at thirty five dollars
Caldwell Sumner County July 25th 1888 the annual school meeting of District 68 was called
to order by Charles M Johnson in the chair minutes of last meeting read approved the
treasurer report read adopted the clerk read and adopted Anton Kuchera elected director for
three years letter county Supt. Read on uniforming text books A vote taken on text books it was
carried 12 to 3 It was voted to have seven month school commencing Oct first Monday. It was
voted to have a man Teacher with a first class certificate. If one could be had it was voted to
Levy 7 ½ mills to run the school this year. It was voted to allow Jacob Elswick ten dollars for
hauling coal and other things. It was voted to call a c To call a special meeting to vote bonds. It
was voted to adjourn. The board hired David Colven as teacher C Stephens
July 31st 1890 The annual school meeting was called order by director in the chair minutes of
last meeting read and approved treasurer report read and adopted clerk report read and
adopted Jacob Elswick elected a month term Anton Kucher recline his place as director.
Charles W. Johnston elected to fill the vacancy for two years the valuation of Taxable property
in district was 43,735. It was voted to have a male teacher not to exceed $40.00 a month and
have 8 month school and to commence the first Monday in September Motion to build a coal
house. Last motion to adjourn and carried voted to pay Jacob Elswicks 15 dollars for hauling
coal and other works.
The annual meeting of school district No 68 Sumner County was held July 30th 1891 at 2 PM
in the school house. Meeting called to order by L. M. Johnston director. The minutes of last
meeting read and approved.
The treasures read his report which was accepted. The clerk did not have report with him.
Charles M. Johnston having changed his residence, resigned. Mr John S. was elected in his
place for the vacant one year term C. M. Johnston was elected to clerk for 3 years. Motion to
vote tax of 7 mills for school purposes last motion to have 8 month school commencing the
1st Monday in September carried.

Annual meeting school district No 68 Sumner County Kansas meet October at school house
July 28th 1892 at 2 PM Director Prof. John Soucek called meeting to order. Minutes of last
meeting read and approved Clerks report the same. C. M. Johnston elected to serve as
director for 3 years 6 mills on the levy for all school Expenses for usual year Motion carried to
have 7 month school beginning first Monday in September.

The Annual meeting of Voters in district No 68, Sumner County Kansas met in school house
July 27th 1893. Last attendance for annual years. Minutes of last meeting read and approved.
Treasurer report said balance in hands of treasurer $29.22 voted to levy a tax for general
purposes of 10 mills. Motion to have 8 months school commencing the first Monday in
September with 10 days or 2 weeks vacation for Christmas and new years. Motion carried
marvelously to thank Mr Elswick for his long faithful service as Treasurer D. J. Baker was
elected treasurer for 3 years. It was moved and carried that the school board be authorized to
begin to build a new school house next summer or fall using their best judgment as to size
situation Material of building. (by contract or by the day) and that we next year vote tax enough
to cover balance of cost of said schoolhouse and also tax for current expenses. Adjourned C.

district. 43 last year 54 this.
The annual meeting of this No. 68 Sumner County Kansas met at the school house. July 26
1894 Minutes of last meeting read and approved Treasurer report read by S. M. Baker and
excepted. Notification of officers S. M. Baker. Elected for Clerk for three years. Voted to have a
seven months school to commence the tenth day of September. A Tax of seventeen and a
half mills and the dollars was voted for miscellaneous purposes. Moved and carried that
Charles M. Johnston be allowed a liberal compensation for Supervising the Building of the

The annual school meeting of voters of school district 68 met in school house July 25th 1896
minutes of last meeting read approved. Treasurer report read and excepted. Clerk Report
Same. Nomination of officers Albert Subera elected director for three years moved that ten
mills be levied for misc. School purposes also that we hire a seven month school and a male
teacher and for the board to favor uniformity of text books. Moved and carried that the board
enters a contract with the American book Co. for text books for one more year. Moved to call

The annual school meeting of voters of district # 68 met July 30th 1896 with Mr Subera in the
chair minutes of last meeting read and approved treasure report read and excepted. Clerks
report the same election of officers J. C. Butcher elected treasurer five mills was voted for
misc. school purposes and that have a male teacher and seven months of school the
sentiment of the meeting was for Ms Brawing and that we pay 35.00 per month or less. The

The Annual school meeting of District No 68 met July 29th 1899 minutes of last meeting read
and excepted treasurer report read and approved clerks report the same. Letters read from
state Supt. Stephens Moved we have seven months school six mills was levied for school
purposes moved and carried the clerk go over the District and get an account of the no of
books to be exchanged. And the board pay him 2 dollars per day for labor. Moved and carried
we send the county Supt. report back and tell him it was 97 and not 96 election of officers. S

A school meeting this school district No 68 County of Sumner State of Kansas was held
present to call at the school house in said district on the 28th day of July A. D. 1898 at 2
O'clock PM with Mr A Subera in the Chair. The minutes of last annual meeting read and
approved. The treasurer read his annual report which on motion was adopted the clerk read
his annual report which was adopted as read. There being a director to elect for three years.
Mr Albert Subera was re elected by a unanimous vote for the resuming term. On motion it
was voted to have a seven month school. On motion it was voted there be six mill levy for
several school purposes. The board was instructed to have the school building painted
provided they have funds sufficient meeting adjourned

Minutes of meeting held July 27th 1899 in school District No 68 Count of Sumner state of
Kansas. Minutes of last years meeting read and approved C. M Johnston appointed pro term.
Clerks report read and approved treasurer report read and approved. Election of officers J. C.
Butcher was elected treasurer. Charles G.Czaplinski was elected clerk for one year to take
place of S. M. Baker (moved out of district) A tax levy of 6 Mills was made for general purposes.
A motion that we pay $35.00 per month for teacher for ensuring year was carried A motion
carried that the District clerk and District treasurer be allowed $2 per year for clerical work. Mr

Belleview school district No 68 July 26 the 1900 Meeting called to order by Chairman U.
Subera R. M Johnston a clerk per term minutes of last meeting read and approved report of
clerk read approved Treasurer report read and approved. On motion of J. C. Butcher that one
note seven mills tax for ensuing year Carried John Bobel was elected clerk for the next 3
years. On motion of C. M. Johnston the director were allowed $200 each for their services for
other ensuing years. On motion meeting adjourned J. M Baker Clerk It was agreed that we
pay teacher salary $40.00 of forty dollars per month.
Bell View district No 68 July 25th 1901 Meeting called to order by Chairman of board minutes
of former meeting read and approved clerks report read and approved also treasurer report it
was then voted that we levy fund for school purposes. Albert Subera was dully elected director
for the term of 3 years R. M. Johnston moved that we plant some shade trees on school
house yard motion carried the clerk is to plant the trees and care for others. On motion it was
decided to have a term of seven months school commencing 16 day of September 1901 The
board hired Miss Glarce Logan to teach the school at $35.00 per month on motion the moved.

Bell View school district 68 July 31 1902 board met in regular session all members present
meeting called to order by chairman Al Subera minutes of former meeting read and approved
also. Treasurer report read and approved it was voted that we levy a tax of nine Mills on the
dollar for a general school fund on motion of Wesley Kralieds to have a term of eight months
school beginning the third Monday in September carried it was also decided to calcium the
walls of school building and repair walls of Coal cove. Hanny Kalbfleisch was duly elected
treasurer and verified their being no more business the board adjourned

Belle View School Dis. 68 Sumner Co. Board met in regular session June 18 1903 all
members present minutes of former meeting read and were approved annual Report of dis
Treas read and approved. Report of clerk read and approved on motion it was decided to
make a levy of Thirteen Mills of the taxable property of the dis. Motion to paint school carried
also. To repair coal cove and build pavetn? It was decided to have a term of eight months
beginning the first Monday in September No more business. The board adjourned to meet at
next regular meeting

Belleview School dis. No. 68 June 16 1904 Board met in regular session All member present
meeting called to order by chairman J. Subera minutes of former meeting read and were
approved report of treasurer read and approved as was also report of Clerk it was voted that
we have a term of eight months school beginning the second Monday in Sept the board then
employed Miss Thora Dawson as teacher a salary of forty five dollars per month. The board
approved a levy of 12 mills for a general school fund No further Buisness The Board

Belleview school dis. No 68 July 20th 1905 The annual school meeting was called to order by
chairman Albert Subera. Reading of former minutes by clerk were approved report of
treasurer was read and approved and also report of clerk read and approved it was then
decided to have a term of eight months school beginning the second Monday in September a
levy of ten mills was then voted for a general school fund R. M. Johnston was dully elected
treasurer for a term of three years upon motion it was decided bar outside children from
school district. There being no more Business. The meeting adjourned

July 19 1906 The annual meeting of the voters of school bis 68 was called to order by
chairman Mr Subera minutes of former meeting read and approved also report of treasurer
and clerk were read and approved it was then decided to have a term of eight months school
beginning the second Monday Spetember moved and seconded to have a well drilled carried
a levy of 12 mills was voted for resuming John Bobek Sr. was dully elected clerk Miss Maude
Lupp Employed as teacher at salary of 50.00 per month There being no more business. The
board adjourned.

July 18 1907 The board of school dis No 68 met in regular session meeting called to order by
chairman Albert Subera minutes of former meeting read and approved the report of dis. Treas
read and approved followed by report of clerk which was also approved. It was then voted to
levy a tax of ten mills for a General fund. It was decided to have a term of eight months school
commencing on the second Monday of September Albert Subera was dully elected director for
a term of three years. Miss Turman was employed as teacher at the salary of Fifty dollars per
month there being no more business after a general conversation the board adjourned

July 23rd 1908 the board of school dis 68 met in regular session meeting called to order by
chairman Al Subera report of dis treasurers read and approved Same report of clerk. Tere
being no dis valuation the board decided to levy a school fund of five hundred dollars the
board employed miss Vida Dinnoon as teacher for a term of eight months commending on
the second Monday in September 14th at a salary of fifty dollars per month Jerry Lebeda was
dully elected treasurer it was decided to buy a new stove and repair parick and black board
and new doors and locks for school house. There being no more business the board
adjourned.

July 17 1909 The school board of dis 68 met in regular session the meeting was called to
order by Albert Subera chairman the questions of getting new seats was discussed decided
to buy eight small seats also decided to get a new black board not slate but as good imitation
as possible also decided to get new window shades T J Schaffer dully elected clerk to
succeed John Bobek. Miss Era Taylor employed as teacher for a term of eight months
beginning September 5th at $50.00 per month Then to hire Janitor work done. There being
no further business the board adjourned.

July 23rd 1910 The school Board of dist 68 met in regular session. The meeting was called to
order by Albert Subera chairman The need of Painting the house was discussed. Decided to
employ a man to paint and paper the house the school board to furnish the paint and paper
also decided to employ a carpenter to repair doors and lay new floors in cloak rooms. There
being no suitable application did not hire a teacher until one week later when Miss Stella
Wright was hired for 8 months at $52.50 per month she to hire the janitor work done Albert
Subera was dully elected director The board adjourned

April 14 1911 The school board of Dist 68 met by special order of Co Superintendent as the
law was changed requiring all meetings to be held in Spring. The meeting called to order by
Albert Subera. Those present were John Bobek Sr., Jerry Lebeda and T. J Schaeffer. The
report of the last meeting read and approved the letter from supt Lee Harrison was read by
the clerk the supt suggestion that a levy of $1 per scholar for increasing the school library was
approved by the board the books to be selected by said board and to include one large
Websters dictionary. The question of school funds for ensuring year was discussed it was
decided that we would need $700 for school purposes next year. The school year to be 8
months and school to begin 2nd Monday in September. Jerry Lebeda was dully nominated
and elected treas. Of dist 68. Two applications for the school were received by no action taken
regarding them. The board adjourned to meet and complete its work last of June.

Minutes of School Dist No 68 Bellview School April 11 1924 Meeting was called to order by Mr.
T C. Moore Director Minutes of last meeting were read and approved as read. Then the
treasurer report was read and approved as read. It was decided to have eight months of
school the school term to begin on the second Monday in September 1924 Next was election
of Clerk Nomination were Felix Subera and Ed Nulik, Ed Nulik being elected It was decided to
have the school house painted on the outside and painted and papered on the inside. Then
there was a motion made second and carried that there be a levy of $800.00 for maintenance
of the school for the earning year. The school board decided to levy the hiring of the teacher
for the coming year to the patrons of the school with the result of Miss Dorothy E Rains being
hired at the sum of Ninety Dollars per month. If she would accept the school. Being no other
business Meeting adjourned.

Minutes of School Dist 68 Bellview School April 10 1925 Meeting was called to order by T. C.
Moore Director Minutes of last meeting was read and approved as read then the treasure's
report was read and approved as read Then Clerks report was read and approved as read It
was decided to have eight month of school ensuing in the 7th day of September 1925. Next
was nomination made that the school house floor be oiled and seats varnished motion
seconds and carried. Motion made and carried that the District bevy 800.00 for Maintaining of
the school for the coming year. Next was reading applications for the school marm made and
carried that the district offer the school to Miss Dorthy E Prather under the same contract and
price as the year just ending and if not accepted offer the contract to Christian Paulson for
85.00 per moth Being no other business meeting adjounred.

Minutes of school district No. 68 Bellview School April 9th 1926 Meeting called to order by T. C.
Moore Director Minutes of last meeting read and approved as read. Then the Treasurer's
report read and approved as read.. The Clerks report read and approved as read. It was
decided to have eight months of school term to begin on the First Monday in September
1926. Next in order was nomination of Treasurer Mr Subera being nominated of and dully
elected Then come the decision of keeping the school standardized of which called for a new
set of maps, globe and better black boards and at least three play ground amusements and
at least $5.00 worth of library books. It was decided to purchase a new set of maps and globe
and a tetter totter boards and a basket ball and $5.00 worth of library books purchases out of
General fund. And have a personal interview with our superintendent in regards to our black

District 68 county of Sumner State of Kansas, was held in the Bellview school house at two
O'clock P. M. With A. R. Hoyt Director, as chairman of meeting. The chairman appointed Mrs.
Rudolph Lebeda and Mrs. Floyd Hardesty to audit the clerks and treasurer's books. The
minutes of the Feb 27th 1947 meeting were read and approved as read. It was voted to
maintain two schools next term in District for 8 months, beginning September 8th 1947.
Nominations for Treasurer were L. J. Lebeda and Rudolph Misak. Moved and seconded that
Nomination cease carried. Voters received L. J. Lebeda 28 Rudolph Misak 5 L. J. Lebeda
elected treasurer for a term of three years. Moved and seconded that all regulations be
removed and that A. R. Hoyt for Director and Edwin Johnson for Clerk be declared elected.
There were 20 voters for and 12 voters against. A. R. Hoyt being elected director for a term of 2
years and Edwin Johnson elected clerk for a term one year. Moved and seconded that school
board decide which school the pupils should attend carried. Moved and seconded that District
pay transportation charge beginning at two Mills or more carried. Moved and seconded that
the amount of compensation for transporting children that live more then two miles from
school be decided by the school board carried. Moved and seconded that a budget of
$4000.00 be adopted carried. It was voted 29 to 4 to increase the rate of levy not more then

carried. Moved and seconded that Mrs A. R. Hoyt, Marie Zurek, Edna Johnson, Rose Wencl
and Lillie Zurek to pick out the wall paper and inside paint carried. Moved and seconded to
pay compensation for hauling school children that live more then 2 ½ miles from school
carried. It was voted that school board buy new lighting equipment. It was voted to raise the
proposed budget of $4100.00 Which was adopted. Nomination for clerk was Edwin Johnson.
Moved and seconded Nominations cease carried. Edwin Johnson was elected clerk for a
term of three years. The auditing committee approved the clerks and treasure's reports as

appose the adoption of the county unity plan of school, which would eliminate all present

ago school district # 191, 99 and 68 were reorganized into one district. A petition was gotten
up and signed by the majority of the legal voters of the district for the school board to call a
special meeting, the 11th of April 1951 to vote on a proposition of changing the school site to
a central location of the District and moving the two school house to this new site and
modernize. I was delegated to write you and find out if you would sell 1 ½ acre square in the S.
E. Corner of the North East ¼ of section 17-34-3W for a school site and for how much money?

chairman of meeting. There were 56 legal voters present. The chairman appointed Mrs. Zeo
Turek and Mrs Rudolph Misak to audit the clerks and treasurer books. The minutes of
previous meeting were read and approved as read. Moved and seconded to maintain school
for 8 months to begin on September 3rd 1951. Carried. The clerk read the proposed budget
for next term of school in the amount of $4060.00. Moved and seconded that the proposed
budget be adopted 21 voted for 27 voted no. The motion did not carry. Moved and seconded
not to move the school house for two years. 18 voted yes 29 voted no. Motion did not carry.
Motion made and seconded to move both school houses this year 32 voted for carried. Moved
and seconded to move this school house to a central location and go as far as the money will
go, putting a basement under it and modernizing 28 voted yes and 13 voted no motion carried.
Voting on special action for increase of levy 31 voted yes 21 voted no. Did not carry as a ¾ vote
is required. Moved and seconded to adopt a budget of $5500.00 31 voted yes motion carried.

auditing committee Mrs. Jerry Lebeda and Mrs Rudolph Krenck found the clerk and treasurer
books correct. It was moved and seconded to hold annual meeting at 2PM 4 voted yes and 9
voted no did not carry. It was moved and seconded to change the time of the annual school
meeting to 8PM 9 voted yes and 4 voted no. the motion carried. Moved and seconded that the

Treasurer Proceedings of meeting: A meeting was held with all members of the school
board present & Miss Virginia Johnston and Zeo Zurek Two members of a committee
appointed by the president of the community meetings to discuss the buying of a projector,
the school board decided to purchase a projector and that the community have the privilege to
pay some on it if they so wished to. It was voted to buy soon. There being no other business
the meeting adjourned.

June 5th 1953 District 68 Meeting held at Bellview school house on the 5th day of June 1953
District board members present: Rudolph Misak director, Edwin Johnson Clerk, W. R.
Mortimer Treasurer Proceedings of meeting: The annual meeting of school district # 68
County of Sumner State of Kansas, was held in the Bellview school house at Eight O'clock PM
With Rudolph Misak Director as chairman of meeting. There were eight legal voters present.
The minutes of Previous meeting were read and approved as read. The clerk and treasurer
reports were read moved and seconded to have 8 months school carried moved and
seconded to begin school August 31st 1953 carried. Moved and seconded to adopt the
proposed budget in the amount of $3500.00 carried Frank Kublik and Josephine Kubik
audited the clerk treasurer looks a reported them to be correct. Moved ad seconded to sand
and varnish the floor until a good finish is obtained carried moved and seconded that school
board get new benches and rec about cleaning venetian blinds tune piano get fire
extinguisher and to ceiling and walls carried. W. R. Mortimer was nominated for treasurer
moved and seconded that nominations cease carried. W. R. Mortimer was elected by a
unanimous vote for a term of three years. Administered oath to newly elected officer. Moved to
adjourn carried.

November 23rd 1953 District 68 Meeting held at Bellview School House on the 23rd day of
November 1953. Proceedings of meeting: The board of school district # 68 held a meeting in
the school house , beginning at 7:30 with all members of the board present. Some bills were
paid. It was voted to rock the entrance from the highway in on to school grounds. It was voted
to buy a 14 foot creosoted pole for basket ball back stop. It was voted to dry clean the stage
curtains. Moved to adjourn.

February 15th 1954 District #68 The school board met February 15th 1954 with all members
present. One bill was paid a buyer was present to bid on the old barn that is located on the
former District 99 grounds he bid $15.00 just as is. We sold it. Mr. Arthur Hoyt offered to give a
used gas stove with oven on top to the District to use in school house which we accepted.
June 4th 1954 The annual meeting of school District # 68 Co. of Sumner State of Kansas,
was held in the Bellview school house at eight o'clock pm with Rudoloh Misak Director as
chairman of meeting. There were eight legal voters present. The minutes of previous meeting
were read and approved as read. The clerks and treasurer reports was read and approved as
read. The County Superintendent letter was read. Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph Lebeda were
appointed to audit the clerks and treasurer books and report them correct. Moved and
seconded to have eight months school carried. Moved and seconded to begin school
September 6th 1954 carried. Moved and seconded to adopt the proposed budget in the
amount of $4285.00 carried. Edwin Johnson was nominated for clerk Lill Zurek nominated for
clerk but declined the nomination. Edwin Johnson was elected clerk for a term of three years.
Moved and seconded to move the merry go round and teeter totter from the north school
ground to the Bellview grounds carried. Moved and seconded to buy or make a bend carried.
Moved and seconded to varnish floor and turn piano, carried. Moved and seconded that
school board see about fixing the small kitchen in the southeast cloak room and building
shelves in stair way for supplies to be stored. Carried it was voted to do some painting on
building. Administered Oath to newly elected officer. Moved to adjourn carried.

June 3rd 1955 The Annual meeting of school district #68 Co. of Sumner State of Kansas was
held in the Bellview school house at eight O'clock P.M. With Rudolph Misak director as
chairman of meeting. There were eight legal voters present. The minutes of previous meeting
were read and approved as read. The Co. Superintendent letter was read. Mrs. A. R. Hoyt
audited the clerks and treasurer books and found them correct. Moved and seconded to have
8 months school to begin on the 5th day of September 1955 carried. Moved and seconded to
adopt the proposed budget in the amount of $4000.00 carried. Rudolph Misak was nominated
and elected Director for a term of three years. Moved and seconded to fix the sink drain
carried. Moved and seconded to authorize the board to paint the inside of school administered
Oath to newly elected officers Moved to adjourn carried.

October 6th 1955 Meeting held with District #20 Board on 4th day of October 1955. District
board members present Edwin Johnson Clerk. Proceedings of meeting the school board of
District # 68 met with the school District #20 and presented a petition with 53 names of legal
voters in district to annex District #68 to District #20 which was accepted by the District #20
board and agreeing to sell back the Bellview school house and grounds located in the N.W.
Corner of the S.W quarter of section 28 Caldwell township for $1.00 to the Caldwell Township.
Also agreeing that present District # 68 board finish out present school term which ends in
April 1956.

May 22nd 1956 District 68 Meeting held at Bellview school house on the 22nd day of May
1956. District Board Members present: Rudolph Misak Director, Edwin Johnson Clerk, W. R.
Mortimer Treasurer. Proceedings of meeting: As school District # 68 is annexing to school
District # 20. The last and final meeting of school District # 68 was held in the Bellview school
house with all members of the board present. All bills presented were paid leaving a balance
of $943.35 in our District Treasury to be transferred to District #20. There is a balance of
$1081.42 in the county treasurer for this District to date.
